![]() A pacy narrative could have done the trick here, but the uneven editing lets the film down, so does the cinematography. The debut director Santhossh Jagarlapudi couldn’t handle a potent storyline to good effect. Sadly, the core plot is revealed only in the last 45 minutes. Though the audience gets every hint that it’s Sumanth who is about to decode the mysterious element in the story, the film delays the inevitable for long. Playing the role of Priya, Eesha belongs to Subramanyapuram and is the only connection between the village and Karthik, who is doing his research on temples. Eesha Rebba’s on-screen presence barely makes an impact. Like in most Telugu movies, the actress has a very minimal screenspace. In the very beginning, characters go verbose about substantiating Karthik’s part as an atheist, that appear totally redundant. It looks like the director wanted to tell a great story but his narrative doesn’t reflect any such ambition. In fact, Sumanth’s acting is the only element that keeps the audience hooked. Karthik (Sumanth) as a character remains consistent throughout the film. For a major portion in the first half, the narrative moves on a slow trajectory and is distracted by unnecessary subplots. As the title suggests, the story surrounds the village but the incidents and events leading to the interval hardly make any sense. Subramanyapuram has a hero, a mysterious village named Subramanyapuram and a series of eerie deaths that surface at the sight of a peacock. If you have watched the 2014 release Karthikeya starring Nikhil, it will be difficult for you to find any sort of difference in the plots of both the films. Caught between the belief of villagers and facts about the mysterious deaths surrounding the temple, Karthik seeks to find the truth. He is an atheist who visits the village with his love interest and friends for a festival. Karthik, who researches about temples, goes onto investigate the mystery behind the Subramanyapuram temple. ![]()
